No, wrong. Google reaader is worse when it comes to searching historical items that appeared in feeds. It searches only up to the the point about only few days worth of items (ie. those that you have viewed recently using load more items). I have checked it myself using a few old feeds which have 1000+ unread items each and I searched for a popular keyword that is supposed to produce lots of results, and it only produced 2 days worth of results.
